Crawl Space Repair in Washington, DC Townhouse
Challenge
A homeowner in a Washington, DC townhouse was concerned about uneven and sloping floors above their crawl space. The issue had worsened over time, and the homeowner feared it could lead to more significant structural problems. After a thorough inspection by NV Waterproofing and Foundation Repair, we discovered that the sloping floors were caused by excessive moisture in the crawl space, which had weakened the wooden beams supporting the floors above. The homeowner needed a solution that would not only address the structural issues but also prevent future moisture-related damage.
Solution
To resolve the problem, we implemented a comprehensive crawl space repair and encapsulation plan. First, we encapsulated the crawl space with a CleanSpace Vapor Barrier to seal out moisture and protect the area from dampness and mold. To maintain a dry environment, we installed a SaniDry Dehumidifier, which helps control humidity levels year-round.
Next, we addressed the structural issues by installing new steel supplemental beams to replace the weakened wooden ones. To provide additional support and ensure the floors above were level and stable, we installed SmartJacks, which are adjustable steel supports designed to reinforce the new beam and lift the floors back to their proper position.
The results were outstanding. The homeowner was thrilled to have level floors throughout their home and peace of mind knowing their crawl space was now dry, stable, and protected against future issues.
