Foundation Repair in Bethesda, MD
Challenge
A homeowner in Bethesda, Maryland contacted NV Waterproofing & Foundation Repair after noticing a concerning crack on the wall of the first-floor level of their bungalow-style home. Since wall cracks can be a warning sign of foundation settlement, the homeowner wanted a professional inspection to determine what was causing the issue and how serious it had become.
During the free inspection and estimate, our design specialist found that the home was experiencing foundation settlement caused by erosion around the property. When soil washes away or becomes unstable, it can no longer properly support the foundation. Over time, this can lead to cracking walls, uneven floors, sticking doors or windows, and continued structural movement if not repaired.
For this Bethesda bungalow-style home, the goal was to stabilize the foundation and also address the drainage issues that were contributing to the erosion around the home.
Solution
To stabilize the foundation, NV Waterproofing & Foundation Repair installed 6 helical piers and 2 push piers. Helical piers are steel foundation supports that are advanced deep into stable soil to help support lighter structures or areas where soil conditions require a precise anchoring solution. Push piers are driven down to stronger, load-bearing soil and are commonly used to help stabilize areas of the foundation affected by settlement.
Together, these pier systems helped transfer the weight of the home from unstable soil to deeper, more reliable support below the surface. This helped protect the foundation from continued settlement and gave the home the structural stability it needed.
To help prevent future erosion and water-related soil movement, our team also installed a yard drainage system. Proper yard drainage helps direct water away from the foundation, reducing the risk of soil washout and added pressure around the home.
After the foundation repair and drainage improvements were completed, the homeowner was happy to have a more stable home and a plan in place to help protect the foundation long term. If you are noticing wall cracks, foundation settlement, erosion around your home, or drainage issues in Bethesda, MD, NV Waterproofing & Foundation Repair offers free inspections and estimates to help identify the right repair solution.
