Basement Waterproofing in La Plata, MD
Challenge
homeowner in La Plata, MD, was faced with a persistent and frustrating problem: water was continually finding its way into their basement. This recurring water intrusion created a damp, musty environment, rendering the space unusable and raising concerns about potential mold growth, property damage, and a decline in their home's value. Unsure of the exact cause, the homeowner contacted NV Waterproofing and Foundation Repair to schedule a professional evaluation. Our System Design Specialist conducted a full, free inspection, which confirmed that water was seeping in at the vulnerable cove joint, where the basement walls meet the floor. The dampness had also led to high ambient humidity throughout the space.
Solution
To provide a permanent solution and transform the basement into a dry, healthy, and usable area, our team designed and installed a comprehensive waterproofing and humidity control system. Each component was chosen to work together to manage water from the moment it enters to the point it is safely discharged from the home.
First, we installed the WaterGuard® interior perimeter drainage system. This innovative drain is placed along the base of the basement walls to capture any water seeping through the wall-floor joint. Its unique design effectively collects this water and channels it directly to the sump pump, preventing it from ever reaching the basement floor.
Next, we lined the basement walls with the CleanSpace® wall vapor barrier. This durable, bright white, and antimicrobial liner acts as a physical barrier, isolating the basement interior from the damp, porous concrete walls. It directs any moisture or wall leakage down into the WaterGuard® drain, ensuring the space remains dry and clean.
At the heart of the system, we installed a SuperSump® Plus sump pump. This high-performance system is engineered for reliability, featuring a powerful cast-iron pump capable of moving significant volumes of water. The airtight lid prevents moisture and odors from escaping back into the basement.
To address the high humidity, we integrated a SaniDry™ Sedona dehumidifier. This high-capacity, energy-efficient unit automatically controls the air quality, keeping relative humidity low to prevent mold growth and eliminate musty smells.
Finally, we installed a dedicated discharge line to carry water from the sump pump far away from the foundation. The line was fitted with an IceGuard® attachment, a critical component that allows water to escape even if the pipe freezes or becomes blocked, preventing a catastrophic backup during cold weather.
With this integrated system in place, the homeowner's basement is now completely dry and the air is clean and healthy. They have regained valuable square footage and can now enjoy total peace of mind, knowing their home is protected from water intrusion and humidity issues.
