My wife and I moved into this house a little over three years ago. In the past year, we have noticed cracks along the walls that were not here during the purchase of the house. On occasion, we come across a new crack running along with the ceiling, over doors, and down the seams of wall corners. Initially, we felt that it was a home settlement or shifting, but since we are not professionals we need to feel that accrue the correct information from a professional. The home was built in 2000, and due to some water damage, it was had some substantial 2nd-floor remodeling over the kitchen area prior to the purchase. None of the cracks exposed themselves during the home inspections, but have gradually become noticeable. We had friends come by but they provided us with a basic evaluation and replied that it was not anything serious. That is why we are soliciting your evaluation, to understand what are the causes and should we budget for a fix.

We have a very old house with a small cellar and 2 crawl spaces. The crawl space that accesses air ducts and plumbing has a clearance that tapers off toward the front of the house, and contractors cannot easily access the area to inspect and make repairs. We also have a moisture problem. This issue must be addressed before we move forward with our home improvement projects.
